Taking an interest in the news and current affairs shows that we care about the world around us.

And the news is pretty difficult to avoid - anyone who has a TV or uses social media is confronted with current affairs, like it or not.

Poetry, on the other hand, is an aesthetic form of communication.

So in an age where our daily news is undoubtedly grim, perhaps having it served up in a more palatable form will help take the edge off...
